Lolita’s Personality

If they aren't socialized properly, macaws can become aggressive and even bite. It is essential to establish clear boundaries so that the macaw doesn't feel threatened.
Blue and Gold Macaws, in general, are active birds who enjoy playing, interacting and climb. They require at least 2 to 3 hours a day outside their cages for physical exercise and mental stimulation. They enjoy playing games, learning tricks, and listening to music. They also love going to parks and playgrounds while hiking, and also visiting local bars and restaurants. In addition to being a great pet, they also make loving companions for children.
Despite their adoring nature they are loud and can be a nuisance to those who live near. They can emit ear-splitting screeches and loud cries, which can be a nuisance to those who live in apartments or condos.
Another interesting trait of this particular species is that it is monomorphic which means males and females are hard to distinguish. Because of this, DNA testing is the only reliable method of determining sex. Once sex is established, pairing the birds can be attempted and breeding can begin.

Lolita's Care
Since the 1960s, activists have pleaded for Lolita to cease performing tricks in Miami Seaquarium. They also would like her to be relocated to an open-water pen. After the 1993 film Free Willy sparked public outrage over the reintegration of orca Keiko into the wild, activists were hopeful that Lolita would suffer a similar fate. Unfortunately, she didn't get the chance to go back to the ocean.
The captors of Lolita, referred to as the Dolphin Company, have ignored the advice of a veterinarian and continue to put her in danger. They harm her health by forcing Lolita to perform for tourists. They over-exert her with high-speed circles and head-first diving, which exposes her to chlorine and cause her to lose weight. They also put her in a tank that is one-and-a half times smaller than her natural habitat.
Fortunately, in 2022, the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with a group of Lolita advocates known as Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe who view her as to be a family member and plan to eventually move her to open waters. The plan would have included a sanctuary in Washington's west coast, where she could stay for the rest of her life, receive human medical care and be monitored by researchers. The sanctuary pen would be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home, and would be surrounded by the ocean and not an empty concrete tank.
If the plan had been implemented, Lolita (also known as Tokitae or Toki) could be alive today. In the wild killer whales are highly social animals that bond with family members until they die. Lolita has lived isolated at Seaquarium for the past 40 years. Activists across the country, including Ric O'Barry (former Flipper trainer), Empty The Tanks and Orca Network, have called for her retirement from Seaquarium's stage and her eventual release into the wild.

After completing the teacher training program of Lolita, you will be ready to teach the Pilates Method anywhere in the world! Lolita's Diet

The decision comes after years of public pressure and demands, including from PETA, that the Miami Seaquarium release Lolita into a seaside sanctuary where she can swim in the ocean and perhaps even meet the orca thought to be her mother. The plans were not enough to save the whale, which died on Friday due to what was believed to be a kidney issue.
